I'm interested in the molecular mechanisms governing surface polysaccharide biosynthesis in bacteria. Specifically, I'm using the capsular polysaccharide (CPS) biosynthesis pathway of Streptococcus pneumoniae to study how the Wzy polymerase functions to assemble mature CPS from individual repeat units, and how the CpsCD co-polymerase modulates this activity.
